Open Meets

An Open Meet is a gala hosted by another swimming club inviting other swim clubs to join them. These galas are generally open to those aged 9 years+, and must be registered with Swim England as Club Compete members.

Our gala coordinator, Leanne, will email those on the mailing list our upcoming open meets that we will be attending alongside guidance on how to enter. If you do not receive these emails and would like more information, please speak to your swimmer’s coach/teacher. A list of upcoming meets are also listed on our Gala Calendar page.

Entry fees are payable upon acceptance of application by the hosting swimming club, and costs will vary per meet. You will receive an email when payment is due. Swim times gained at these meets are sent straight to Swim England by the hosting club and are updated against your swimmer’s record – www.swimmingresults.org/individualbest/

Purpose

These open meets are a way for swimmers to gain qualifying times to enter County, Regional or National events. They are good for improving PB’s (personal bests!) and picking up some bling along the way. 🥇🥈🥉🏆

We encourage our swimmers to cheer on their teammates when they are not swimming and most importantly to have fun – the days can be long and tiring, but very exciting! The courage and strength our swimmers gain from competing at these events will carry them throughout their lives and teach them great resilience.

On the Day

Swimmers are entered into suitable heats (as per race entered), based on their predicted or actual swims times. Medals are usually awarded to the top 3 places within each age group (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16+ years), and occasionally awards are given to top male/open and female swimmers at the end of the gala.

Warmups will be allocated before each session and managed by a Telford Aqua coach, therefore swimmers must arrive in good time prior to the start of the session.

All those competing will be looked after throughout the day by our qualified and DBS checked Team Managers and swimmers will need to sign in and out with the allocated TM’s.
