Learn to Swim

Learn to Swim at Telford Aqua consists of stages 1-7 and takes swimmers from the age of 5 years old.

At Telford Aqua our aim is to support swimmers gain confidence in the water, create a love of swimming, develop strong strokes, gain a knowledge of water safety and also introduce skills for the competitive world of swimming. Our swimmers also have a chance to compete in competitions throughout the year, if they wish to do so. Whilst swimmers are in lessons you can track their progress on their own Google classroom which is updated each week.

Our Head Teacher is Abbie Dale and she is supported by our two Assistant Heads: Abi Turner and Adam Tatton. Our swimming lessons take place on Monday evenings at Shortwood pool and Friday evenings at Abraham Darby Leisure Centre. Our lessons follow the school term schedule and we do have holiday terms off to rest.

If you have an interest in joining our club, please email Sam at tascnewmember@outlook.com and we will arrange an assessment to place your swimmer in the best stage for them.

Stages 1 and 2:

30 minute session.

Our stage 1 and 2 is designed to create a love of swimming, build confidence and develop the ability to do simple skills and travel in the water independently without swimming aids. In stage 1 and 2, swimmers will learn basic water safety skills, that could be vital in emergency situations.

Stage 3 to 5:

30 minute session.

In our stages 3 to 5, the swimmers start to develop their stroke technique; including front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Our swimmers also develop skills that can be used in other areas of swimming and we maintain our focus on providing swimmers with water safety knowledge. Additionally, once every half term we run a competitive skills session that teaches skills like diving, turns and relay racing.

Stages 6 and 7:

1 hour session.

In our stage 6 and 7 sessions, our swimmers swim lengths and the main focus is building up stamina, as well as further proving their stroke technique. By the end of stage 7 swimmers should be able to swim all strokes to Swim England standards and have a range of skills that can be used in other areas of swimming (competitive swimming, artistic swimming and water polo). Every session ends in the practice of competitive skills, using competitive equipment such as diving blocks.
